Directories, US Province
Scope and Contents
The Viatorian Community Directory is published annually and distributed in the Fall by the Provincial Office. It started in 1939 in response to many requests as to the whereabouts of the confreres. This initial directory was published as a listing in the Lector, a newsletter, Christmas 1939, Vol. I, No. 2. It gives information by city/state and institutions therein, listing the confreres who ministered, lived and/or attended school at each location. The next directory 1940-1941 was published as separate booklet. It contains a list of the Provincial Direction and then the Institutions by Archdiocese/diocese and the confreres assigned there. Also included is a list of priests with birth, first vows, priesthood and majorate years, a list of brothers with birth, first vows and majorate years and a list of the deceased members and the date of their death. The directory booklet is published each year to the present day. The recent directories contain information on the following: Jubilarians, General Direction, Provincial Directions, Foundations of all the Provinces, Provincial Direction for Chicago ,Province of the US), Associates, Pre-novices, Novices, Provincial Chapter, Provincial Commissions and Committees, alphabetical list of Members, Institutions and Residences, US Foundations: Belize and Colombia, Date of Profession for Vowed Religious, Date of Committment for Associates, Status of Personnel, Dedications, Deceased Memebers ,Monthly and Alphabetically), Provincial listing, and significant dates for the Community. The directories are a valuable information source for research. They serve as a chronological history of where the Viatorians were assigned each year.
