Necrology

 Collection — Container: booklets
Identifier: GD-Pubs-012

Scope and Contents

Necrology is a booklet that lists the confreres who have died from the beginning of the religious order to the year that the booklet was published.  The booklet is organized by months and on each day of the month a listing is given of the names of the deceased , including the year each died, the age at death, the number of years as a religious and years of priesthood.  It encompasses all the Viatorian Provinces, past and present. The Necrology serves as a remembrance - "to keep the memory of those confreres who have gone on before us to the Father."  "...the General Regulations ask that every local community celebrate a special Eucharist for each confrere who dies." There does not appear to be a consistent period of time between publication - it can range from 2 years to 20+ years.  It is also not clear if the collection is complete. The first Necrology in the collection was published in 1955, and then updated with publications in 1971, 1992, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2017. The collection includes the Spanish version for 2013 only.
